Box 13 Foundation stemmed from an Association (Box 13 Associates) which originated in 1933. The group formed into a membership, which was composed of professional men and women interested in helping the Cincinnati Fire Department. The purpose of the Association was to unite private citizens eager to help promote and improve fire protection within the City of Cincinnati. The Association is non-political in nature and exists to provide effective support to the mission and morale of the Cincinnati Fire Administration, its officials and all members of the Cincinnati Fire Department.

The Brilliance of Working Together

The innovative partnership between the Box 13 Foundation and CFD occurred as Box 13 Associates looked for ways to expand their support of CFD.

Box 13 Associates found that the Department was in great need of expanding its advocacy and fundraising efforts. Like many other urban areas, city budgets are ever decreasing. Due to citywide budgets dwindling, CFD has been forced to reduce funding in many critical areas.

Traditional "crossed-ladders"

Box 13 Associates found that by establishing a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that they could help seek alternative revenue streams that CFD was unable to pursue on their own. Their collaboration represents a groundbreaking opportunity to benefit not just the CFD, but the community to which it serves.
